This is not a sermon…

I wonder sometimes if you find my sermon synopses a little vague, and then my mind jumps immediately to wondering if they come off a little obnoxious. I have said on more than one occasion I hate writing the synopsis, and it has to do with the way I feel at theology. I spend my time in the sermon writing process trying to understand theological concepts derived not only from ancient text but modern media, and often I notice that if I am too specific “it” (whatever it is) vanishes. My sermons are intended to handle a theme like water in loosely cupped hands, that when I try to grasp returns to the stream from whence it came.
