The Truth in the Scars

,

One of the biggest problems with the world we inhabit is that we didn’t biologically evolve to live in the world we built. Instead we evolved to live in a world long gone. We live in a fast paced, technology-centered world bent to our comfort, and yet we aren’t comfortable. This isn’t the fault of our technologies nor is it really ours either. We evolved to protect ourselves from predators–running and hiding or fighting back. Yet, we struggle with nuance which give us an anxiety the brain did not evolve to handle. At a base level the brain understands evading a predator, but it struggles to understand the anxiety of corporate evaluations or a world that uses scarcity as a tool to drive profit. The wounds that come with this new technological age and the scars they leave behind aren’t as obvious as they used to be. But these scars are a sign of success, as I’ll share this coming Sunday.
