Elvis Presley: More Than a Music Icon

Rev. Gail Tapscott may be a bit of an intellectual but she is also an unapologetic and lifelong Elvis fan with some personal ties to the man himself. In the wake of the new movie, Rev. Gail has been researching EP and now could do a doctoral dissertation on him. She will ask us to look at the world famous singer as someone who can help us ponder race, class, sexuality, and morality as well as whether we preferred young Elvis, older Elvis, or none of the above.

Rev. Tapscott is a semi-retired UU minister and former professor of World Religions and Critical Thinking at Strayer University and Broward College. She received a M.Div. at Harvard Divinity School and a M.A. in Philosophy from St. John’s College and trained in expressive therapy and psychosynthesis through the Psychiatric Institute in DC and the Concord Institute in MA. She is a life long social activist particularly focused on the environment, women’s issues and the rainbow community. She currently resides in Oxford, MS, and attends the UU Congregation of Oxford.
