Easter Brunch and Community Potluck Blog Post

This past Sunday, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jackson celebrated Easter together by engaging in the tried-and-true practice of sharing food, songs, and time.

We gathered in our sanctuary for an intergenerational service with our children, spoke of the return of spring, sang hymns of renewal and commitment, had a terrific easter egg hunt, and had a communion of flowers.

We shared stories about spring from our diverse array of beliefs, and broadened our understanding of this time of year amongst many faiths and cultures. Some of us had such a great time, there was no other choice but to dance with an unexpected amount of grace!

Once our service ended, our Religious Exploration team, Board President, and various parents oversaw the Easter egg hunt, where all the kids had a blast. Everyone came away a winner by finding a golden egg with a special prize inside ($2 bills!), ensuring no one felt left out of the excitement.

While the children were competing for candy and trinkets, other community members and congregants filled their tummies with delicious and allergen-friendly home-cooked meals prepared using our Perfect Potluck sign-up system. This mom was well and truly spent at this point in the festivities, so I gave the kids their “5-minute warning” before heading back home. However, many others stayed at the church to chat and clean together to renew our space for the next Sunday service.
