Unitarian Minister James Luther Adams wrote this phrase in 1947. James Luther Adams argued vehemently that the role of the church was pivotal for societal change, and it was the people in those churches who bore the weight of this new creation. When he talks about the role of the prophet in society, that role is not limited to the minister, it is the responsibility of every person who bares the mantle of association. We are prophets standing between two worlds, calling for change.
This Sunday we will be acknowledging all the volunteers who stepped up during the pandemic to give their time and talent to our congregation. If it was not for these people, we would not have survived this long night, because they have not just helped us survive, many of whom have forged a path forward that may carry us through the years.
