Joe Clayton 1938 – 2021

Joe Clayton

We are saddened to announce the passing of long-time member Joe Clayton. Joe attended UUCJ since moving to Mississippi in 1976 to where he worked managing Mississippi’s six national forests. He was a faithful member and elder of our church, who over the years served in multiple positions on the Board, the conflict resolving CALM Council, and the Leadership Development Council, and was a weekly attendee of Forums and Services. Joe was known for his cheerfulness, calmness, kindness, modesty, generosity, and coffee-fueled conversations. He was open-minded, never rushed to judgment, and always had stories to share. Joe is survived by his wife and UUCJ member, Mary, his and Mary’s children, Kathryn, Beth, and Yancey, who also attend UUCJ in their youth, and his grandchildren, of whom he was so proud. He will be deeply missed! May we hold his torch and carry his legacy!

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Wright Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. More details will be available at wrightferguson.com.

His obituary is posted online by where you may sign the virtual guestbook to send a message to his family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the UUCJ Memorial Fund.
