Activities
May 4
Forum: Rev.
Kalen Fristad
Our guest
speaker is a United Methodist Minister and member of the
Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship, who will talk about
his book on Universalism (he will have extra copies for sale for anyone
interested in obtaining their own copy after service).
Service: Universalism:
Past, Present and Powerful Presented by the Rev.
Fristand.
The
teaching of eternal damnation is not merely a harmless
untruth that we might appropriately ignore and allow
to stand. It can lead to serious consequences, including
the possibility,
perhaps even the inevitability, of wars; bigotry; oppression; and abuse.
On the other hand, the teaching of Universalism leads to equality, respect,
love, and dignity for all.

Forum:
Mind Practices Led by Stacy Callender.
Sometimes
we think that "spiritual" and "intellectual" are
mutually exclusive, yet it has long been recognized that reason and rationality
are among the many paths to discover deep truths. We will examine our
intellectual explorations as part of a fully rounded spirituality.

Forum: Forum:
Body Practices Led by Stacy Callender
Despite the
modern and ancient assertions of connections between our
minds and our bodies, our worship is generally sedentary.
On Sundays we tend to sit in one place listening to readings and sermons,
moving only to stand to sing. This workshop will help us explore our
spiritual journey as deeply rooted in -- not separate from -- our physical
experiences.
Service: Reframing Our Narrative Presented
by Rev. Fred L Hammond.
Brian McLaren in his book “Everything
Must Change: Jesus, Global Crises, and a Revolution of Hope”
suggests a different underlying narrative to why the
world is the way it is in opposition to the more
orthodox Christian narrative of a broken world in need of salvation of
which only the elect will receive. Is there an underlying
narrative that Unitarian Universalists can embrace and
be motivated by to interact with our society and world?
